In this special episode I spoke with an international guest from my native country, Republic of Georgia, and global ambassador of a critical alternative solution against tough chronic infections and antimicrobial resistance on behalf of a global center of excellence in bacteriophage therapy, discovered over 100 years ago. My guest, Davit Sturua, Doctor of Business Administration, Public Health and Medical Tourism expert, is the director of the Eliava Phage Therapy Center, a global leader in real-world, clinical, research, and commercial experience with naturally occurring bacteriophage treatments. He discusses the Georgian center's 100-year old history and evolution, its extensive experience treating patients across 84 countries, explains the current global public health problem, and provides an update along with rationale on the recent growth in clinical studies investigating phage therapy across the globe in this part 1 of 2 episodes on this topic. Watch this episode with English subtitles to learn about how you, your friends, family, healthcare payers and experts, healthcare providers, patients and their loved ones can consider alternative options via telemedicine or in person to treat chronic, tough bacterial infections or prevent antimicrobial resistance. Stay tuned for the next episode (part 2) on this topic with my guest Dr. Dea Nizharadze, Chief Physician at the Eliava Phage Therapy Center, who delves deeper into the typical course of treatment, patient journey, and various scientific attributes of phage treatments.
In the latest issue of our "InWeekend" journal, I summarized the key highlights and notes from the 2024 Financial Times US Pharma and Biotech Summit which took place on May 16, 2024. Enjoy the overview of critical highlights across all of the most essential issues on our minds in the healthcare industry from some of the brightest minds and executive decision-makers among manufacturers, investors, scientists, non-profit organizations, and policy-makers. The candid debates and expert panels span 7 different topics:
1) FDA update on evaluating AI / ML to accelerate drug development (Trade-off between AI Transparency and Explainability)
2) Misalignment in supply chain, payment systems, and policies
3) Rise of patient consumerism
4) Generational gaps among employees in the industry
5) Largest areas of advancement and therapeutics in development
6) Preventive and longevity medicine / epigenetic reprogramming / regenerative medicine
7) Anticipated legal milestones and election implications
I sat down with a dynamic and passionate physician, activist, and thought leader in Obesity Medicine, Dr. Angela Fitch, who shares some practical, valuable data on the efficacy of the latest obesity treatments including Ozempic, Zepbound, and Wegovy. major supply chain issues and shortages of such treatments, lack of patient access, and a public health emergency facing the U.S. today, 140 million of which, or almost half the country, qualifies to receive such treatments.
Angela Fitch, MD, FACP, FOMA is a leader in the field of obesity medicine, current president of the Obesity Medicine Association and 2017 winner of its Clinician of the Year Award, Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard University, and former co-director of the Massachussetts General Hospital Weight Center. She is a dedicated clinician, as well as an activist for obesity medicine, board member of the Obesity Action Coalition, and a founding member of the Massachusetts Coalition for Action on Obesity.
In this new "InWeekend" series premiere of the Alloutcoach podcast, I present my endorsement of modern leadership that keenly observes and addresses the natural human ambition to unlock individual potential of the competitors among all of us in life sciences through meaningful metrics and continuous quality improvement. The new approach aims to raise new standards of healthcare quality and ways of working by quantifying performance more transparently, systematically, and objectively than ever attempted before in Medical Affairs across pharma and biotech. Link to listen: https://lnkd.in/ec8NjT7P
In additional to real-world lessons, insights, and commentary from experiences I have accumulated over the years, this episode includes:
- 1 validated organizational change framework that measures motivation
- 1 recent global demonstration project/case study
- 5 latest performance related research studies and benchmarking reports in/beyond healthcare with supporting + contrasting evidence
- Clips from an organizational change expert Ron Carucci and a double Olympian swimmer Chris Cook
As you listen, I ultimately invite you to debate why work ultimately becomes like war for many in its current construct that lacks clarity and objectivity and argue why it should instead be like a sport for a diverse, multi-functional profession not directly driven by revenue that is increasingly constrained in resources and extensively exposed to data on its performance today.
Dear Friends who work or volunteer in Life Science companies, non-profit organizations, Health Systems, Patients and Patient Advocates all over the globe who are enthusiastic about innovation in the field and impatient about addressing or anticipating our challenges,
I personally invite you on behalf of the Steering Committee of 8 Industry experts, prior judges and Medical Affairs Innovation Olympians to share your solutions and beliefs loudly when it matters most in a unique format of an ideation competition.

There has never been a more appropriate time than today to reinvigorate and add life to our workplace. To discuss why inspiring a certain company culture as well as innovation can increase engagement and performance, I interviewed Rebecca Friese, co-founder of FLYN, leading management consultant, keynote speaker and author of "The Good Culture: The Leader's Guide to Creating a Workplace that Doesn't Suck". By identifying outdated practices from the ground floor to the boardroom, Rebecca helps a wide range of organizations from Fortune 500 behemoths to hopeful start-ups, build the capacity to implement market-leading cultural changes.
In our informal and candid conversation, we discuss how company culture becomes visible or invisible in a typical organization, why it influences performance, how we can keep ourselves accountable with KPIs or performance metrics for performance as well as behaviors or culture, growing culture over time despite successes and failures, why engagement and innovation is so relevant to all of us today, and real world case studies of leadership approaches to implement the environment or culture with intentionality that delivers innovation.

Whether you are in life sciences or a different industry, I am excited to share with you the hottest, most timely and critical collection of cutting edge developments and controversial issues across pharma and biotech in this update from a recent Global Pharma and Biotech Summit recently organized by Financial Times in London.
This issue of our "InWeekend" LinkedIn Newsletter highlights some of the most critical gaps as well as promising opportunities in drug development, ground breaking advances, specific case studies across the spectrum of competition, collaboration and innovation in life sciences.
It provides a latest update on the intersection between healthcare and advanced analytics, AI, Machine Learning, and Blockchain technologies which many of our leaders in healthcare will find valuable and consider as they think ahead along the entire life sciences value chain that begins with patient engagement and health equity and ends with investments in innovation.
Only a small proportion of databases used by pharmaceutical manufacturers describe the structure-activity relationship between molecules and their biological functions. Deep learning approaches that employ machine learning such as generative adversarial networks (GANs) close this gap to accelerate drug design, repurpose old drugs, and improve drug target prediction accuracy compared to all other tested methods. GANs have led to the first AI-discovered compounds in human clinical trials, earlier cancer detection or treatment response, multi-drug bacterial resistance and benefit on longevity, yet their success depends on benchmarking the quality of data collected. Request a copy of the abstract we submitted to the 6th Annual International Conference on Drug Delivery and Formulations in Scotland that provides a systematic review of the metrics and benchmarks used in drug discovery for latest state of the art AI, Deep Learning, GANs approaches in drug discovery.
My long-awaited conversation is finally published on the latest @Alloutcoach podcast of which I am particularly proud for many reasons. It began my friendship with a tremendous leader, a two-time British Olympian swimmer, global keynote speaker and executive coach, Chris Cook. It was a reflective in-depth conversation rather than an interview which is absolutely inspiring regardless of your sports interests or current ambitions in business!
He explains why we should experiment, dare to share with our competitors who as he says "are our greatest assets at times", spend more time reflecting internally, train and practice more rather than perform alone to improve recovery from setbacks in business, and inspires us to keep things simple in order to make the dreams of reaching the Olympics a reality in life and in business.
Listen to the Audio Podcast in which I was interviewed by an Emmy nominated, award winning TV journalist Jill Nicolini from PBN Podcasts (Podcast Business News network). I shared my views on transforming the bottom line business today in life sciences and beyond by inspiring and measuring both performance and engagement using our formulas and 3 strategies that focus on 1) changing the culture of communication by innovative Medical/Business Insights Systems and Analytics; Workflow case studies; Culture and Values Initiatives 2) designing performance metrics and contests that matter in which employees and competitors believe or want to participate voluntarily; and 3) creating learning and development (L&D) communities to advance healthcare continuity, quality, and innovation.
This is a memorable conversation I recently had with Peter High, President at Metis Strategy, a premier advisory firm in business strategy, data transformation, international growth, mergers & acquisitions. Peter is the host of the first, longest-running technology podcast called "Technovation", keynote speaker, regular Forbes columnist, and author of the book "Getting to Nimble". The audio podcast is available across all platforms (click button below) and the video version on my YouTube Channel - make sure to watch and subscribe! In our discussion, he shares his lessons on the real world role and reality of competition, innovation, and culture in business today, as well as his insights on redefining productivity, performance metrics, and the legacy of information technology and modern enterprise executives in general.
In 2018 I underwent a critical transformation in search of more mentorship, learning and development. So I received an MIT certification in Leading Organizations and Change based on a course taught by Melissa Norcross which paved the way for the growth of my network, business, and this podcast I would later start. As a former Chief Strategy Officer and veteran operations and strategy consultant for firms including McKinsey & Co., Melissa’s work spans industries and the globe.
She has worked with organizations ranging from Fortune 100 companies to non-profits as well as private-equity funded turn-arounds. Melissa facilitates peer networks of senior executives in the digital and technology space through Collaborative Gain’s Councils. She holds a BS in Engineering from MIT, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a Ph.D. in Values-Driven Leadership from Benedictine University.
I am excited to share this "podcast in a course" type of discussion she and I prepared for you so follow and share the episode if you find it valuable!

What happens when you add the role and duty of "inspiring people" to your title of a leader whether or not it is in your job description? It becomes a secret ingredient to your team's success, your legacy, high team engagement, recognition and awards.
Larry Freedman, an award winning pharma executive is the type of inspirational leader I had the fortune of working with at a global pharma company, AstraZeneca, who personifies success. He has authored a new article called "The Sequence of Success" based on his determination to make inspiring others his duty. In our introspective reflection of his career and philosophy, he explains how he led "two levels deep" to turn around a slow launch of a global cardiovascular product and earn the company's most prestigious CEO Award and SIX Circle of Excellence awards for leading the number one team in the nation to go on to become one of the most decorated award winning leaders in his organization.
At the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS) EMEA meeting May 15-17, 2022, we deconstructed the individual parts of the cycle of generating, capturing, and communicating Medical Insights that can inform and transform Business Strategy across a #pharma or #medicaldevice company. And we debated, and critically evaluated the potential role of #Advanced #dataanalytics #AI #naturallanguageprocessing with Robin Winter-Sperry, MD João Dias Richard Graves.
Thank you panelists and attendees for the candid discussion - there are many issues still to solve and more sessions to come at future MAPS meetings!
